Chennai, April 23 -- Defying the fact that he was aged 99, Dr H V Hande, Ex-AIADMK Minister and grand oldman of Indian politics, walked down to the polling hall and cast his ballot in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Thursday, drawing instantaneous appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr Hande, who had served as the Health Minister in the MGR Cabinet during the erstwhile AIADMK regime, reached the polling booth at the Thousand Lights constituency in the city, and walked along right from the entrance to the polling hall and cast his ballot.
Dr Hande, who had joined the BJP in 1999, later in a message on X, said voting was not just our right, but leaving behind a responsibility for the future generations.
