Ranchi, Sept. 13 -- Residential households in Jharkhand will no longer have to bear the heavy burden of steep water connection charges.
Acting on the recommendations of the Assembly's Delegated Legislation Committee, the state's Urban Development Department has slashed the fees and agreed to extend free connections to families living below the poverty line (BPL).
Until now, households in the state paid some of the highest connection charges in the country. The fee was Rs 7,000 for homes up to 1,000 square feet, Rs 14,000 for 2,000 square feet, and Rs 21,000 for larger houses.
