Guwahati, Nov. 10 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state cabinet has decided to prohibit polygamy in Assam and the government will table the Assam Prohibition of Polygamy Bill 2025 in the forthcoming session of the assembly on November 25.
The proposed bill also has provision of seven years of imprisonment for those who practice polygamy and provision to compensate the victims of polygamy.
The Chief Minister said this while addressing a press conference on Sunday after the cabinet meeting.
