Guwahati, Nov. 25 -- The BJP-led government in Assam on Tuesday tabled the Tewary Commission and Mehta Commission report on the Nellie massacre, 42 years after the infamous incident killed over 1800 people and rendered lakhs of people homeless.

The report starts with the demographic changes the state had witnessed and said that there had been continuous immigration to Assam during the entire period, particularly from East Bengal, which affected the local population.

The Tewary commission report observed that the agitation gained large-scale support of the masses and that the government employees too launched non-cooperation.
