Guwahati, Oct. 4 -- In a significant development indicating a healthy and biodiverse wetland ecosystem in the Kaziranga National park, a pair of painted storks was sighted in the park, famous for its one horned rhino population.

Director of the park Sonali Ghosh said this today, adding that the sighting of the pair of Painted Storks marks a significant ornithological record for the park. Ghosh added that the sightings of Painted Stork are extremely rare for Kaziranga National park.

"The first published records date back to 2004, followed by another in 2005 and thereafter in 2022 during the migratory waterfowl census. However, no subsequent observations were documented," she said.
