Guwahati, Nov. 6 -- Assam's Chief Information Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has resigned from his position after the name of his brother got entangled in the case relating to the death of singer Zubeen Garg.
A former Director General of Police in Assam, Mahanta was appointed as the CIC in 2023 post his retirement.
His brother Shyamkanu Mahanta is a prime accused in the Zubeen Garg death case and have been languishing in jail. Another brother Nani Gopal Mahanta is a vice chancellor of the Gauhati University.
