Imphal, Sept. 26 -- In a poignant moment of remembrance, 111 personnel of the Assam Rifles gathered at Modi village in Manipur's Chandel district today to honour the enduring legacy of Rifleman Churamani Singha. The solemn wreath-laying ceremony marked the 35th anniversary of his sacrifice in the line of duty.
Rifleman Churamani Singha was part of a patrol team deployed between Phainbung Khullen and Lekhmai in Manipur in 1990. On that fateful day, the patrol came under intense insurgent fire. Despite sustaining grievous injuries, he displayed extraordinary courage and continued to engage the threat, ultimately laying down his life in defence of his comrades and the nation.
