Guwahati, July 27 -- In what might spell doom for the people of Assam , particularly for the farmers, the state has recorded 44 percent deficit rainfall in the months of June and July this year.

Data from the Indian Meteorological Department said that the state of Assam has recorded 44 percent deficit rainfall in the last two months. Lack of rains have delayed the agricultural activities in different districts--while farmers have been able to plant paddy seedlings in some district, in some of the areas the farmers are witnessing draught like situation.
