Guwahati, June 10 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that the devastation of floods has been reduced in Assam over the years.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here in Guwahati on the occasion of 11 years of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in office, he said that the flood is necessary for Assam for its ecology. "However, the devastation caused by floods has been reduced over the last few years.

There are no breaches of embankments these days like they used to be in the past," said Sarma.

"There were 50 embankments, and most of them used to breach earlier. There are hardly any embankment breaches these days, which have resulted in less devastation," he said.
