Guwahati, Feb. 5 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is going to initiate a civil and criminal defamation suit against Congress leaders Jitendra Singh, Bhupesh Baghel, Gaurav Gogoi, and Debabrata Saikia for allegedly making false, malicious, and defamatory statements against him.
The Chief Minister said this after the Congress leaders had accused the Assam Chief Minister Biswa Sarma of acquiring huge wealth, including a vast amount of land and property across Assam, in the names of his wife and other family members.
The Congress leaders also accused Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family members of having acquired around 12,000 bighas of land across Assam in violation of rules.
