Guwahati, July 18 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, ridiculing his recent rally at Chaygaon in Assam as politically insignificant and deliberately staged in what he described as an "infiltrator-dominated" area to avoid mainstream scrutiny.

Sarma accused the Congress of lacking the courage to organise political events in the state's capital, Guwahati, where a stronger show of public support would have been a true test of the party's strength.

"If Rahul Gandhi really believed in his influence, he would have gone to Khanapara. But instead, they chose Chaygaon - a Muslim-majority area where many infiltrators live," Sarma alleged.
