Guwahati, July 11 -- Two days after West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee slammed her Assam counterpart for trying to extend the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to Bengal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the issue is related to a judicial process.

Banerjee reacted strongly after a person from Dinhata under Coochbehar claimed to have received a notice from the NRC authorities in Assam asking him to prove his citizenship. The individual Uttam Kumar Brajabasi claimed that he has been a resident of Dinhata for the last 50 years.
