New Delhi, May 24 -- Abhijit Baruah, not many people are well aware of the name yet, has become Assam's first professional boxer who made cut for the world championships which will be organsied under World Boxing Council (WBC) in Tanzania.

After getting a confirmation about Baruah's selection in world championships there was a festival like atmosphere at his hometown Jorhat.

Barauah, who competes in 69kg weight category, defeated Uttar Pradesh boxer Shivam Tiwari in the Asian Boxing Council's trials conducted by RDC sports on Sunday.
