Guwahati, July 10 -- The Assam Cabinet has approved the Draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Regulatory Guidelines to Prevent Coercive Practices by Private Nursing Homes and hospitals in Assam.

The Assam cabinet on Thursday approved the SoP and made it mandatory for the hospitals to handover bodies within two hours post-death certification irrespective of pending payment.

Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this today after a cabinet meeting held at Dispur and said that the hospitals would attract penal action if there is a delay beyond two hours in handing over the bodies.
