Bengaluru, July 16 -- Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot today reiterated the party's demand for a nationwide caste-based census, stating that such a move is essential to address growing inequalities in the country.

Speaking in Bengaluru following a key meeting of the newly-formed OBC Advisory Council, Gehlot said, "Rahul Gandhi had made a clear appeal yesterday-to the people of India and the Union government-that a caste census must be conducted. It's been 70 years since independence, yet discrimination and economic disparity among SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, and the poor from all communities continue to widen."
