Mumbai, April 13 -- The curtains came down on one of Indian cinema's most iconic voices as legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was bid a tearful farewell and cremated with full state honours at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Central Mumbai on Monday.

Mumbai Police fired a three round volley in a traditional gun salute. Her mortal remains were brought to the crematorium wrapped in the national flag.

The cremation witnessed by thousands of people was held at 4 pm, marking the finale of an extraordinary eight-decade career that left an indelible mark on Hindi film music and beyond, as the nation collectively mourned the loss of a cultural icon.
