Thiruvananthapurm, April 8 -- As many as 400 home deliveries are taking place in Kerala annually, State Health Minister Ms Veena George said on Tuesday. The minister said this in view of the death of a woman during childbirth at her husband's house in Malappuram. The newborn baby remains on oxygen support at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Government Medical College Hospital at Kalamassery in Kochi. The 35-year-old Asma, wife of Sirajuddin known for religious healing practices, died during the delivery of her fifth child at her husband's house.
