Itanagar, May 28 -- A strong wave of opposition has emerged from the remote tribal villages of Nukung and Mla in the Hawai circle of Arunachal Pradesh's Anjaw district, as villagers voiced their unequivocal rejection of the proposed Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project (1200 MW) during the public consultation and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) review meeting held on Tuesday.
In a detailed letter submitted to Anjaw Deputy Commissioner, the Nukung Welfare Society, representing the affected communities, condemned the project for failing to obtain their Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) - a mandatory requirement for projects affecting indigenous populations under both Indian and international legal frameworks.
