Itanagar, April 4 -- Rupa Bayor from Arunachal Pradesh has scripted history by becoming the first Indian athlete to achieve World Taekwondo (WT) World Ranking No. 5.

The milestone comes on the heels of her being honoured as the "Best Taekwondo Poomsae Player of the Year 2026" at the India Taekwondo Gala Awards. She also currently holds the distinction of being Asia's No. 1 in Poomsae.

Congratulating Rupa Bayor on the remarkable achievement, Chief Minister Pema Khandu described it as a proud moment for both the state and the nation.

Khandu lauded her dedication, discipline, and relentless hard work, stating that her success sets a new benchmark for taekwondo in India.
