Itanagar, Dec. 19 -- Arunachal Pradesh on Friday mourned the passing of Omak Komut, a renowned Adi folk singer, cultural exponent and Donyi-Polo priest, who breathed his last on Thursday at TRIHMS, following a prolonged illness.
His demise has left an irreplaceable void in the cultural, spiritual and artistic landscape of the state.
Born in Rumgong village of Siang district, Omak Komut was widely regarded as a rare custodian of Adi oral traditions.
He dedicated his life to preserving and performing endangered folk forms such as Padam Nyanyi, Tangko Nyone, Pasi Kongki, Bari and Nenem Rellong, many of which survive today largely due to his lifelong commitment.
