Itanagar, Aug. 22 -- In a significant step towards promoting public health, Darka village under Aalo Sadar in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district has been officially declared as a tobacco-free village under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP).

The declaration was made by in-charge Deputy Commissioner of West Siang, Mabi Taipodia Jini, during a public programme held in the village. Addressing the gathering, Jini highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco, cautioning that its prolonged use leads to life-threatening diseases. She urged volunteers and community members to remain vigilant to ensure the village remains free from tobacco and substance abuse.
