London, Aug. 20 -- Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey has been named Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Women's Player of the Year, while her new teammate Olivia
Smith claimed the Young Player of the Year award.
Caldentey, 29, enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign in north London after arriving from Barcelona, scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions. That included nine goals and five assists in the Women's Super League, where she was also named Player of the Year by fans in May.
Her influence helped Arsenal finish second in the WSL behind Chelsea and lift the UEFA Women's Champions League title, with a 1-0 victory over former club Barcelona in the final.
