Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- Around 40,000 migrant workers have applied for 'Sramashree', a state government project launched to help migrant workers return to Bengal and become economically self-reliant.
According to official data, more than 22 lakh skilled and unskilled workers from Bengal are currently employed in other states. While the initial enrollment in the last three weeks has not been very encouraging, officials remain optimistic.
"The online registration process has just begun, and we expect the numbers to rise steadily in the coming weeks," said a senior labour department officer.
