Ranchi, Jan. 4 -- Former Jharkhand chief minister and ex-Union minister Arjun Munda on Sunday mounted a strong attack on the Hemant Soren-led state government over the newly notified PESA Rules, alleging that the rules strike at the very soul of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters here, Munda said the demand for framing PESA Rules in Jharkhand had been pending for years and the government was compelled to act due to sustained pressure, including court interventions.

However, he alleged that the notified rules were fundamentally flawed and deviated from the original intent of the Act.
