Kannur, Nov. 29 -- Adhiraja Mariyumma, the head of the Arakkal Royal family, passed away at her residence Almar Mahal near here due to old-age ailments on Monday. She was 87. She is the wife of late AP Aluppi Elaya, a retired Madras port officer. She is survived by three children. Mariyumma alias Cheriya Bikkunhu Beevi became the 40th ruler of the Arakkal dynasty and assumed the charge on May 8, 2019. Arakkal dynasty was the lone Muslim dynasty in Kerala that had once ruled the Kannur town and the southern part of Lakshadweep and Minicoy.
