New Delhi, Dec. 16 -- After waking up to a dense blanket of smog for several days as air pollution breached hazardous levels, Delhi residents got brief relief on Tuesday, with the city's air quality improving to the 'very poor' category.
At 4 pm, Delhi's 24-hour rolling average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 354, a marked improvement from 427 on Monday and 461 on Sunday, the worst recorded so far this winter.
Experts attributed the improvement to persistent surface winds that helped disperse pollutants trapped near the ground. Wind speeds picked up on Monday afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 20 kmph, and continued through the night.
