Srinagar, Sept. 17 -- After being stranded for nearly three weeks, apple-laden trucks were finally allowed to move towards Jammu from Srinagar today, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of farmers and traders in the Valley.

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was reopened for one-way traffic yesterday, following a review meeting chaired by union Minister for Roads and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The prolonged disruption had left thousands of fruit-laden trucks stuck in the Valley, drawing sharp criticism of both the Centre and the J&K government for their failure to ensure smooth movement during the peak apple harvest season.
