Agartala, May 26 -- Escalating the ongoing controversy, the apex literary body of Kokborok (dialect spoken by tribals of Tripura), authors, thinkers, and poets - the Kokborok Sahitya Sabha (KSS) - have announced a modified "Roman script" as the official script for the language.

While most of the indigenous parties and Congress have been demanding Roman script for Kokborok, the ruling BJP, opposing it, instead proposed to subscribe to Bengali or Devanagari script, considering the practicability and advantages of the users.

From the beginning, tribals communicated in Bengali, and the new generation got acquainted with Devanagari script due to the popularity of Hindi.
