Vijayawada, Oct. 28 -- Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture K Atchannaidu today directed officials to immediately open cotton purchase centres to procure cotton from farmers, ensuring the produce would not be damaged by the cyclone threat.

The Minister ordered the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to open 30 purchase centres and commence purchasing cotton from the farmers starting Wednesday, October 29.

Minister Atchannaidu instructed officials to take all steps necessary to provide farmers with the Central Government's Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 8,110 per quintal.

He noted that the cotton crop was cultivated in 4.56 lakh hectares for the year 2025-26, with the total yield estimated at about 8 lakh metric tonnes.
