Vijayawada, Nov. 28 -- The foundation stone for the construction of central offices of 15 public sector banks and insurance companies at an estimated cost of Rs 1334 crore, was laid in Amaravati, near here, on Friday by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan were among those present.

Speaking on the occasion, Nirmala Sitaraman while pinning hopes on Amaravati's growth as a robust capital, stressed the need for protecting the interests of farmers who gave lands for its development. She appealed to bankers to think afresh and extend financial assistance to these farmers on top priority.
