Vijayawada, Sept. 21 -- Andhra Pradesh Minister for R&B and Infrastructure Development, BC Janardhan Reddy, today hailed the government's decision to provide Rs 50,000 in financial aid per hectare to onion farmers.

Talking to the media here, he said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu understood the problems of onion cultivators. A total of 24,218 farmers cultivating onion in 45,278 hectares in Kurnool district would benefit from the decision, which will place an additional burden of Rs 100 crore on the government.

"The government is committed to the welfare of farmers," he said, adding that it is regularly reviewing onion prices and the suffering of farmers.
