Anantapur, Feb. 6 -- Police shot at a notorious criminal after he stabbed a police constable when the police went there to arrest him at Chilamathur village in Sri Satya Sai district on Friday.

Police said that Yerukala Kavadi Nagendra, alias Naga, was involved in over 90 offences, including gangrapes, dacoities and robberies in AP and Karnataka States. He was not attending the court trial in a gangrape case in which he was the main accused.

Acting on a tip-off that the notorious criminal was roaming in a forest area near Chilamathur village, a police team, including Sub-inspector Ajaneyulu, constables B Shiva Prasad and M Subramanyam, raided the area.
