Vizianagaram, July 6 -- Andhra Pradesh Minister for Women and Child Welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani released water from the Thotapalli reservoir to the kharif crops on Sunday.

The Minister released water from the project to fill small irrigation tanks in about 17 mandals of Parvathipuram, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. This will help in water management up to the last ayacut under the project. This reservoir was planned to provide irrigation water to 1,31,221 acres, but so far it has been able to provide water to raise crops in 84,033 acres.
