Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Feb. 3 -- Cancer is increasingly emerging as a major public health challenge linked to changing lifestyles and rapid urbanisation, according to Dr Naresh Purohit, Advisor to the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP).
Speaking at a Community Cancer Awareness Programme organised by Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research here on Tuesday on the eve of World Cancer Day, Dr Purohit said the growing shift towards urban living has led to higher caloric intake, increased consumption of ultra-processed foods, reduced physical activity and greater exposure to environmental and agricultural chemicals, all of which are contributing to the rise in cancer cases.
