Vijayawada, Aug. 13 -- Popular Telugu film hero and Hindupur MLA, N Balakrishna laid the foundation stone for the construction of a cancer hospital near Thullur village in the capital city Amaravati region, near here today.

The Basavatarakam cancer hospital will come up in 21 acres of land. The cancer hospital is being constructed at a cost of Rs 750 crore. In the first phase, the cancer hospital will have 500 beds.

Talking to the media after performing the bhoomi pooja, N Balakrishna, who is the brother-in-law of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and also son of TDP founder and former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, said that the cancer hospital is being established in memory of his mother N Basavarama Tharakam.
