Kakinada, June 2 -- : Fishermen from Uppada, Moolapeta villages in Pithapuram constituency staged a dharna at Uppada Kothapalli on Monday, demanding a monthly compensation of Rs.11,500 on the lines of their counterparts in Mummidivaram and Yanam areas and fulfilment of their demands.

They raised slogans against the oil companies and also other industries for letting out industrial waste into the sea, polluting waters, and destroying the marine fish wealth.

The fishermen alleged that Reliance, ONGC, SR Gujarat, Divis, Aurobindo companies, besides oil factories, NFCL, Coromandel companies, were releasing industrial wastes into the sea, resulting in the destruction of marine fish all along the coast, and depriving the fishermen of their live...
