Kakinada, Dec. 19 -- CPM workers under the aegis of the CPM city committee staged a dharna in front of the Gandhi statue at the Zilla Parishad here on Friday demanding the scrapping of the amendments made to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).

CPM senior leader Duvva Seshu Babji while addressing the party workers said that the UPA government had brought out the employment guarantee scheme in 2005 at a time when people were facing hardships due to the agriculture sector being in doldrums," he said.
