Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 27 -- Antibodies work most effectively during the initial or contact phase of a viral attack, according to Dr Aravind Sahu, Executive Director of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad.

Dr Sahu said his research explored the role of Complement component 3 (C3), a crucial protein in the immune system present both inside and outside cells, in innate immunity, tissue repair and defence against pathogens.

He noted that the behaviour of C3 during a viral infection makes antibodies particularly effective in the early stage of an attack. His team also studied how the Complementary.

The regulatory system actively defends against viral infections while preventing damage to host cells.
