Srinagar, July 24 -- The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has ruled that advocating secession through speech or slogans alone constitutes "unlawful activity" under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, even without violence or disturbance.

The judgement was passed last week by a division bench of Judge Sanjay Parihar and Judge Sanjeev Kumar while setting aside a trial court's discharge order against two men- Ameer Hamza Shah of Qull Muqam Bandipora and Rayees Ahmad Mir of Kehnusa Bandipora- accused of raising slogans and advocating the secession of Jammu & Kashmir after Friday prayers in Bandipora district in 2015.
