Dhaka, Jan. 5 -- A Bangladeshi Hindu businessman was shot dead and his throat slit by some assailants in Jessore's Manirampur area.

The incident took place in Kapalia market of the upazila on Monday evening, and comes close on the heels of the hacking and burning of another Hindu businessman, Khokan Chandra Das, in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur.

Khokan, who ran a drug store in Keurbhanga market along with a mobile banking business in his shop, was attacked by three known persons on December 31 while he was returning home from his shop. He was hacked by the assailants who then poured petrol on him and set him on fire. He died on Saturday.
