Srikakulam, Nov. 1 -- The auspicious Ekadashi celebrations turned tragic today when a stampede at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Kashibugga village, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, claimed the lives of 10 devotees, including nine women and a boy.
Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu told media that thousands of devotees thronged the newly constructed Venkateswara temple, where the management allegedly failed to make adequate crowd-control arrangements.
The Minister said that 10 devotees, including 9 women and a boy, were killed and 20 were injured in the stampede.
He said the deceased included Yeduri Chinnama, Rapaka Vijaya, Yashoda, Nelamma and Rajeswari.
