Chandigarh, Aug. 21 -- : The Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), led by pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh, has announced its candidate for the upcoming by-election in Punjab's Tarn Taran assembly constituency.
The party has chosen Paramjit Kaur Khalra, the widow of renowned human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, to represent them in what will be the party's first electoral contest.
Jaswant Singh Khalra was a prominent figure who fearlessly campaigned against human rights violations and atrocities committed against Sikhs during the turbulent 1980s and 1990s in Punjab.
His legacy makes Paramjit Kaur Khalra a strong contender, respected for her association with his work and her own activism.
