Kollam, Sept. 22 -- In the wake of rising concerns over amoebic meningitis in Kerala, the Kollam district administration has launched a massive water purification campaign, with District Collector N. Devadas urging the public to remain "extremely vigilant" against the potentially fatal disease.
Chairing a special review meeting, the Collector stressed that though amoebic meningitis is not directly transmitted between humans, it spreads through contaminated water sources, sewage, soil and mud.
He warned that early signs include severe headache, high fever, sore throat, vomiting, fatigue and confusion, and appealed to the public to seek immediate expert medical care without delay if such symptoms appear.
