Mumbai, July 24 -- A significant ammonia gas leak prompted a major emergency response at Mahanand Dairy in Goregaon (East) late last evening.
The incident, traced to a malfunctioning valve on a 3,000-kilogram storage tank, was detected at approximately 9:12 PM within the dairy's ground-floor refrigeration facility spanning about 2,000 square feet.
Authorities immediately initiated a full-scale evacuation of workers as a safety precaution. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police and specialized Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) teams swiftly converged on the scene. As an initial safety measure, the plant's electrical supply was completely disconnected.
