Mumbai, Aug. 25 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appointed Amit Satam as the new president of its Mumbai unit in a major organisational move ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

The announcement was made in the presence of BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and several senior party leaders and workers.

The party leadership's decision to hand over the reins to Satam follows the strategic approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah, even though former BJP leader Pravin Darekar's name was widely discussed for the post.
