New York, Aug. 24 -- Jerry Adler, the veteran Broadway stage manager who reinvented himself as a distinguished television actor, has died at the age of 96.

His friend, Frank J. Reilly, confirmed his death, writing in part on X: "The great actor, my friend Jerry Adler died today at the age of 96. You know him from one of his iconic roles had from many of his guest appearances. Not bad for a guy who didn't start acting until he was 65."Born into a family deeply entwined with theatre, his cousin was the legendary Stella Adler, and his father managed the Group Theatre, Adler began his career backstage, meticulously shaping some of Broadway's most enduring productions.
