Madrid, Jan. 4 -- Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has said the club is working urgently to recover injured top scorer Kylian Mbappe, while stressing he has alternatives in attack if the France forward remains sidelined.

Mbappe, who has scored half of Madrid's goals in La Liga this season, will miss Sunday's home match against Real Betis because of a knee injury and is a major doubt for the Spanish Super Cupin Saudi Arabia.

The tournament opens with a semifinal against Atletico Madrid on January 8, with pressure mounting on Alonso to deliver a trophy.

"We're going to do everything we can to get Mbappe back as soon as possible," Alonso said at a news conference, adding that he could not yet put a timetable on the forward's return.
