Prayagraj, April 16 -- The Allahabad High Court has granted an interim stay on bulldozer action scheduled for on Thursday in Auraiya.

The court gave the stay after hearing the case on an urgent basis late Wednesday evening.

The demolition was scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday. The court ordered the status quo.

The case was heard by a division bench of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Vivek Verma.

An interim stay on the demolition of houses and shops in Auraiya district is effective immediately.

The next hearing in the case will be held on April 29.

The petition was filed by Suman Devi and three other petitioners.

Given the seriousness of the matter, a special bench was constituted on the orders of the Chief Justice....
