Tehran , Aug. 2 -- Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, could soon become the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), the Fars News Agency reported, citing sources.

Larijani could replace Ali Akbar Ahmadian as the head of the SNSC in the coming days, Fars said, adding that once structural changes to the SNSC are completed, a new Defense Council will be established in Iran, the structure of which is expected to be finalized in the near future.

Tehran's plans to set up a new Defense Council emerged just over a month after the start of Israel's military operation against Iran.
