Chennai, Nov. 21 -- An alert school van driver saved the lives of20 students after the vehicle caught fire at Thirumangalam in Maduraidistrict of Tamil Nadu today.
Police said the students were on their way to the school when themishap occurred .
The alert driver, on notice the smoke emanating from the van, stoppedthe vehicle immediately, evacuated all the students safely and shiftedthem to a secure distance, before the fire broke out and engulfed theentire vehicle, gutting it completely.
Fire and rescue services department personnel rushed to the spot andput ot the blaze.
An electrical short circuit was said to be the reason for the fire and thepolice have registered a case and are investigating.
